“When the moon is in the seventh house…then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars.” –Gerome Ragni and James Rado

My roots lie in the suburban landscape of Houston, Texas. It was there that my friends and I embarked on adventures into the wooded areas near our homes. When the moon remained hidden, the woods took on an eerie, unwelcoming aura. We still dared to explore, but our comfort diminished. Those were the nights meant for cornfields.

Yet, when the full moon graced the night sky, everything changed. It brought not only comfort but also a sense of wonder. I would find myself captivated by the subtler light it cast, a hypnotic, almost trance-inducing blue-gray glow that draped the leaves and ground in its serene luminescence. Silence enveloped us, and the slightest noise seemed to disrupt the moon’s enchantment, especially when its radiant face was partially veiled in shadow. It was on such nights that the stars shone brightly, and we marveled at their abundance.

In this artwork, light takes center stage. The black threads weave and unravel, mirroring the shifting radiance of the moon. Under the influence of a UV light, the colors come to life in a way reminiscent of a nebula. Turn off all other sources of light, and the moon’s glow persists, accompanying the stars in their celestial dance until the morning light breaks the spell. Here, light and darkness interplay to conjure a world of enchantment and celestial beauty.
